Problems

BIO is focused on the resolution of optimization problems in the bioinformatics field. For this purpose, we use multiobjective optimization techniques along with parallelism-based technologies (cluster computing, multi-core computing, etc.). We will also study the combination among techniques (hybridization) and the use of problem-aware operations.

Bioinformatics problems addressed in BIO are:

• Discovery of patterns (motifs) in biological sequences.
• Phylogenetic inference.
• Design of DNA sequences for DNA computing.
• Arithmetic hardware for bioinformatics acceleration.
